Meet the Editor of IJNS

Ian Norman
Ian Norman, FRCN, Professor & Associate Dean, Florence Nightingale School of Nursing & Midwifery, King's College, University of London, UK

Journal I edit:
International Journal of Nursing Studies

What inspires me to be a journal editor:
To contribute to the development of the discipline and improve clinical nursing and midwifery practice

Most influential book I have read:
Impossible to say, but I recommend the one I'm reading currently, The Logic of Life by Tim Harford, which argues that rational behavior is much more widespread than you would expect and crops up in the most unexpected places. And if you want an inspiring book, I recommend Gipsy Moth Circles the World by Francis Chichester.

Most influential nursing book I have read:
I think Notes on Nursing by Florence Nightingale still has much to offer. My own clinical practice has been influenced most by cognitive behavioural psychotherapy texts, in particular by Cognitive Therapy: Basics and Beyond by Judith Beck.

One tip or trick that makes my editor role easier:
Working with good colleagues with whom one can share and develop a future vision of the journal

My favorite vacation destination:
Bosham, West Sussex, England

My best advice to novice editors:
Enjoy it-it's a great learning opportunity.

One word to summarize me:
It depends on who you ask!
